Elementary students spend at least an hour each week engaged in physical activity and developing large and small motor skills through games and teamwork. Middle and High School students continue to develop their physical skills and teamwork through P.E. classes. Health classes help students explore what it means to care for the physical body with which they have been entrusted.
Though the majority of athletic opportunities offered are non-competitive, Sahel students do have the chance to enjoy some friendly competition throughout the year. A favorite intra-school competition is Field Day. The whole school is divided into teams that compete against one another in various track and field events. Every October, Sahel Academy hosts the NUTS Softball Tournament. Many Sahel students choose to participate on competitive or recreational teams and others cheer them on. In recent years, working together with the American International School of Niamey, we have been developing more inter-school competition in soccer, basketball and volleyball.
